Unlike entries that require a written exam up front like INET or CDS, the Indian Navy SSC Officer route relies on direct academic shortlisting followed by the Services Selection Board (SSB) process.

Shortlisting is based on your cumulative normalized marks up to the 5th semester (for 3-year degrees) or 7th semester (for 4-year B.Tech programs). Candidates who get shortlisted will receive call-up letters for the SSB interview via email and SMS.
Shortlisted applicants are called to one of the Naval Selection Boards (Bangalore, Bhopal, Coimbatore, or Visakhapatnam).
Candidates recommended by the SSB undergo thorough medical checks at designated military hospitals. Air Branch entries (Pilot, NAOO, ATC) undergo special aviation medical boards.
The final merit list is prepared purely on your SSB score, provided you pass the medical checks and fit the vacancy count for your chosen branch.
Selected candidates enter as Sub Lieutenants under Training.
Starting Pay Structure (7th CPC Level 10):
- Basic Pay: ₹56,100 per month
- Military Service Pay (MSP): ₹15,500 per month
- Dearness Allowance (DA): Standard central government rates
- Special Allowances: Flying Allowance (for Pilots/NAOO), Submarine Allowance (for Submarine Tech), Technical Allowance, and Hard Area Allowances where applicable.
